The Anti-Matter Antologhy

Un libro de Norman Branon (New End Original) sobre sus experiencias en la escena hardcore de los 90. También puede servir como testimonio de la evolución del hardcore en esta década. The Anti-Matter Antologhy es su título.

Comentario del autor:

A book is born.

I gave up on this book a thousand times. The first time was in 1999, only a year after I first pitched the idea to Revelation. At that time, I thought The Anti-Matter Anthology would make a decent coffee table book. But after seeing a few of the art mock-ups, I knew that wasn't my baby. It didn't look anything like me.

I gave up on it again in 2001, when my band, New End Original, started touring and I grew slightly despondent over the newer, shinier version of the post-punk world — where bands had energy drinks pay for their tour buses and first-week Soundscan reports actually meant something. I didn't want to send my baby into that climate. It wouldn't stand a chance out there.

In 2004, five years after we first started trying to conceive, I gave up again. By this point, I knew The Anti-Matter Anthology would be a book that you could take on the subway or sit on top of your bedside table. I realized that it would be more memoir than music study. This child wasn't going to be all things to all people; he was going to carve his own niche.

But then I gave up in 2005, after I almost died in a car accident.

Today, however, when the bookstore clerks unlock their doors and the record store lackeys flip on their stereos, I will be a published author. The Anti-Matter Anthology will likely find a seat next to Our Band Could Be Your Life or American Hardcore on the bookshelf, but if I had my way, I'd put it next to Naked: It's the sometimes comical story of a twenty-something kid who tells his story through the lives of other people. He always hoped that, someday, you'd get to know him, too.

We always think that ours is the cutest baby in the room, but seriously, look at him. He has his father's eyes.
